Effects of Regenerative Biomaterial Applications on Inflammation in Ocular Surface Injury Model
The therapeutic armamentarium available for managing acute chemical eye injuries has remained largely unchanged for decades. Within this context, the pivotal determinant influencing long-term prognosis revolves around the extent of tissue damage and the subsequent uncontrolled inflammatory response. Optimal therapeutic interventions focus on mitigating inflammation, expediting epithelialization, regulating enzymatic degradation that precipitates tissue breakdown, and preserving the functionality of limbal stem cells, which play a critical role in ocular surface regeneration. Consequently, stem cell-based therapies have emerged as promising modalities for restoring corneal and conjunctival integrity post-injury, with particular emphasis on addressing inflammation and advancing artificial cornea research within the framework of cellular therapy.
The present study endeavors to enhance the management of ocular surface inflammation through the application of innovative bioengineering methodologies.
