Programming limbal stromal mesenchymal stem cells
Recent years have seen a surge in stem cell-based treatments for various corneal diseases including but not limited to limbal stem cell deficiency, keratoconus and corneal scars. However, despite these advances, the sources of stem cells and the physiologic environment within which these stem cells reside significantly affect their behavior in the host tissue. This entails the question whether stem cell culture and production methods can be standardized for the specific desired effect.
We have therefore embarked on this project to investigate whether the production of mesenchymal stem cells can be tailored specifically to optimize corneal wound healing.
This project is supported by Eskişehir Osmangazi University Research Project Funds under the Prioritized Research Fields scheme (project numer: TOA-2022-2458).
